Dr. Dyson is certainly much more likeable and has more street cred. I don't think Cosby and Poussaint are totally wrong, but they come across as patronizing and don't seem to recognize the spiritual component in all of this. It's going to take gospel-centered, incarnational ministry to make a dent in these problems, not preaching to the black underclass from an ivory tower.
My dear brother Stephen Bill Cosby is right. The only thing lacking is tying his observation to scripture.Likeability has nothing to do with this, the wickedness in the heart of the unregenerated manifest itself in the things the book address.Where there is no vision the people perish, black folk have forgotten the God of the bible who delivered them.Check out the old negro spirituals and the old gospel musicians.
I've heard both sides of this. I'm not expecting Cosby to call the people sinners. There are existing issues of depravity among the black Middle Class, and upper class as well.
Michael Dyson has made some points. Dyson does have his audience, and money too. Yeah, I see the street cred and I hear an articulate brother in Dyson.
I'm curious about his theology.
Does know where he's coming from theologically? I've been tempted to read one of his books to see where his head is in regards to theology.
On his website there's a lot of information about the books he's authored. But nothing on his theological background. I see that he's been described as a social critic.
Our community is in need of godly African American leaders that have a mind for God, and a heart for people.
Stephen I do agree with the last part of your statement brother.
"It's going to take gospel-centered, incarnational ministry to make a dent in these problems, not preaching to the black underclass from an ivory tower. "
